Clara the 14 oz Fawn

Clara was at Highland Animal Hospital in Augusta, GA.  She was brought in by a client.  She is extremely tiny, dehydrated but strong.  She drank an ounce and a half of deer colostrum with no hesitation, which isn't always the case.  She is smaller than the average cat.  Clara will be fed every 2 hours for the next 3-4 weeks.  I expect a great outcome.  I will update everyone weekly.  KEEP IN TOUCH!!

Releases

Freddy
Little Freddy the squirrel was released yesterday, May 13, 2010.  He was more than ready for freedom.  We went to a secluded area and opened the door of his small transport cage.  He shot out and ran to a tree and started playing.  He immediately showed a relief of freedom.  Freddy was special and loved by quite a few.  I hope he does well.

7 Little Opposums
"My babies" Most people don't care for opposums.  I think they are precious.  Yes, very stinky and lots of teeth along with a powerful biting attitude but precious still.  I let my babies go into the wild the same day as Freddy.  They all scurried away, just like they are suppose to do.  I will admit for me it was a tearful good-bye.  I will miss them.

Little Bunny
I got this little bunny who was small but ready to be on his own.  I turned him loose as quickly as I could to ensure his health with a lot of wildlife.  With a lot of wildlife, if you keep them to long they will go into captive shock and die.  I always try my best to do what is right for the animal, no matter how cute, cuddly, or small  it is.  In this case this very small but mature rabbit was happily released.

My First Deer of 2010 & Squirrels

I always name the first deer of each year "Chaos".  Chaos 2010 came to me when a concerned gentleman found her beside her dead mom.  She had been there a while and was lucky to be found.  She is slightly dehydrated but strong.  I feel she has a very good chance of surviving.  I will keep you updated on Chaos & all helpless critters.

Chaos 2010

Only one day after getting Chaos, I received a phone call from Highland Animal Hospital in Augusta, GA.  They had received a fawn.  When the workers arrived at work there was a box at the door with a fawn inside.  They quickly took the fawn inside and called me.  I came out and got the little doe.  Her name is Roxanne.  She is doing great and seems to be very strong but shy.

I received 3 baby squirrels, 2 boys & 1 girl.  They were found by a tree man, while cutting down a tree.  Their nest was destroyed.  They need to be syringed fed right now.  Hopefully they will follow in Freddy's footsteps and grow quickly.

Update on all my little guys

2 Rabbits- The babies are going wonderfully.  They are growing and thriving and are adorable.

Freddy-Freddy is growing steadily and becoming aggressive.  He is off milk completely and eating solid foods.  If he continues on the same path, Freddy will be leaving soon.

7 Opposums- We still have 7 opposums.  They are all getting big and feisty.  They are off the tube feeding and on to a syringe now.  Tonight I will be putting them in a larger cage.

Baby Rabbits (Times 2)

I received two baby rabbits that were found in a paster close to their mom.  The mom had died.  They are weak and only about a week old.  I will do my best to supply what they need and get them back happily to the freedom of the wild as soon as possible.
